Values of America 2011
In Beowulf's time period, cultural values were a bit extreme: heroism, religious change, and death. By our standards, living by these ideas would not suit a person well in society. In current America, we focus on much lesser values that are still equally important to us. The most obvious value we adore is the sports world. We look to sports for entertainment, a getaway from the struggles of everyday life. Also, sports can be a haven for tragic times, such as 9/11. After such a tragic event, the city of New York and really the entire country looked to sports 100 for a momentary relief. A second value Americans hold close is their national pride. Also due to 9/11, American patriotism has never been higher since the Revolutionary War. Flags are always handled with care, the national anthem has never been sung louder, and our colors can been seen flying all over the land. The country is near and dear to our hearts. A third aspect of life associated to Americans is money and the economy. While the current economic status is going through a recession, America is still the standard for living. We are the hope for any immigrants wishing to find a footing in life somewhere. The Statue of Liberty is still a beacon of hope to the world. Even when people look back hundreds of years from now and recollect on our country's story, no words can touch the surface of how great a place America really is.
