Honors Novel

If I could make a suggestion on an honors option book to analyze over the winter break, I would suggest to read Winning Is An Attitude by John Chaney. John Chaney was the head basketball coach at Temple University for twenty four years. He was a tough coach who only expected excellence from his teams. His defense was always within the top programs in the nation, and his passion for the game is second to none. Most importantly, the guys he would recruit for his program would not only turn out to become very good basketball players, but they would learn how to become a man. The majority of his players came from broken homes and appalling family and social backgrounds, yet he taught them that something great can be built out of nothing special. This book takes place during the 1989-1990 season. He shares his wisdom on his journey from living in a poverty-ridden ghetto in Philadelphia to becoming a cornerstone and example of a fine educational institution. I learned many lessons on growing up from this book, as will everyone who decide to choose Winning Is An Attitude as an honors option.
